Valley Home News 02-22-23
Mullins - VH

Dignity, Honor and Respect … those feelings are shared by many here in Valley Home, as our community prepares to say goodbye to a man of great stature. Fire Chief Jerry Benedix served our community for over 50 years. He gave his all to the community he grew up in! Chief Benedix was born here and lived his entire life in Valley Home. He and his beloved wife Edwina raised their family here, their children grew up here and in later years the Chief and Edwina would watch their grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up here! They loved spending time with their family, their many close friends and especially their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Thursday, February 23 from 3pm to 7pm at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. Friday, February 24 at 10am, the Chief will be laid to rest at Burwood Cemetery, River Road.

Rest in Heavenly Peace, Chief Benedix.

We are excited to once again send tremendous congratulations to our Oakdale High School Academic Decathlon Team. This amazing team of hard-working students dedicated hours and hours of studying, burning the midnight oil many, many nights to accomplish their goal … to bring back another win to our community. These amazing students and those who have come before them have brought home 20 county championships of academic excellence over the past 22 years. We are in awe; what an amazing accomplishment! Our communities of Oakdale, Valley Home, Knights Ferry and the surrounding areas are so proud of these dedicated students and the hard work they put into this huge win. Congratulations to each of you!

This week we would also like to send congratulations to our Oakdale High School FFA. The FFA Livestock Judging Team and Cooperative Marketing Team took their amazing talents to the Chico Field Day. Both teams placed first overall. Valley Home’s Emma Wucherer reported that everyone had a great time and enjoyed being part of the competition. Congratulations to all!

More excitement as we share this great news: Two Valley Home School sixth graders performed in the Bay Area this weekend. Ashlan McCurley performed a beautiful dance routine in San Francisco while her classmate Millie Cox enjoyed a great gymnastics competition in Napa. Both girls were amazing in their performances!

In the meantime, our Valley Home basketball star Tyler Cooley has played his last high school basketball game. Tyler has had a wonderful high school career and will be graduating this May.
