Summer Reading Programs At Local Library
Library

The Summer Reading Challenge for all ages is in full swing at the Oakdale Library; all are encouraged to read books, join in the special activities and programs and have a chance to earn prizes.

As part of the program, plan to attend a special performance by Illusionist Timothy James, set for Thursday, June 14 at 1 p.m., when magic and comedy will blend together to create a fun, upbeat show that is a truly “magical” experience. All are welcome, admission is free.

A celebration of Father’s Day is planned with a fun, unique craft on Friday, June 15, at 10 a.m. Local youngsters are invited to come to the library for a craft project to make a “little something” with “shrinky dinks” to tell dad he’s special.

The Summer Reading Program also invites children to learn about the world on Wednesday, June 20, at 3:30 p.m., to craft Maasai necklaces. Bright colors and patterns are the traditional style of the Maasai tribe of Kenya. Participants will learn about the meaning of the colors and make a unique necklace to wear.

Have more Summer Reading fun with the sports and craft adventure on Thursday, June 28, at 3:30 p.m. There will be some sports and activities from different places and times: indoor archery, basketball, and mini-golf included.

The Friends of the Oakdale Library are the main sponsors of many of the library’s programs and prizes, including gift baskets given to Adult Summer Reading drawing winners. The Friends constantly promote and encourage literacy at all levels for everyone. The Friends will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, June 25 at 1:30 p.m. Forms to join and info are available at the Oakdale Library, or call 209-847-4204.
