SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATION
river

The body of an Oakdale man was pulled from the Stanislaus River on Sunday afternoon, June 7. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Walter Sanders, 59; the cause of death was not released pending an autopsy. A sheriff’s department spokesman said the preliminary investigation did not indicate any foul play. Modesto and Stanislaus Fire Department water rescue units went on the river near the Highway 120 bridge, east of the Oakdale Recreation Area, around 3 p.m. Sunday. Crews were called to the scene for a possible water rescue but it turned in to a body recovery. More information will be made available as it is released from the sheriff’s department.
