Service Clubs Eyeing Project Cooperation
Oakdale Flag

A recent meeting brought together representatives from a number of Oakdale area service clubs and organizations, with the goal of mapping out a plan of how to work better together.

The group of service clubs gathered to discuss issues each club faces and review options for some joint service projects. Representatives from the following clubs attended the event: Oakdale Rotary, Oakdale Lions, Oakdale Women’s Club, Oakdale Citizen’s Cemetery, Oakdale Cowboy Museum, Oakdale Tourism and Visitors Bureau, ASTRO Foundation, Oakdale Sunrise Rotary, Oakdale Soroptimists, Oakdale Kiwanis, Friends of the Library, Friends of Oakdale Heritage and the City of Oakdale. A total of 18 people gathered to discuss issues such as membership recruiting and joint projects.

The majority of the meeting centered on discussing plans for a digital sign to advertise club related events and fundraisers. No formal decision was made, as more questions were raised as to cost and where to locate the sign. Some joint projects were also discussed, such as fixing the Citizen’s Cemetery, city parks that need some work and a special event that all the clubs will take part in. Plus, a project to save the history of Oakdale at the Museum was discussed, with a goal to digitize old microfilm records and reference books. The ASTRO Foundation also provided a presentation for their plans to build a new facility in the business park area across from Sconza.

More meetings are planned later this year to work on joint projects and allow for more input by the many members of all of these clubs and organizations.
