Search Prompts Area Lockdown
Police Chase

Some city residents were advised to shelter in place and the Oakdale High School was temporarily placed on lockdown early Wednesday morning, July 11.

The incident concerned several subjects, wanted in connection with a carjacking in Modesto, that were found in the H Street and the South Second – South Third Avenue area in Oakdale. Reports from authorities indicated the use of a UAV – Unmanned Aerial Vehicle – more commonly known as a drone, and K9 units to assist in the search for the suspects.

Modesto Police Department was the lead agency, with a man robbed and carjacked about 5:45 a.m., officials said, as he was leaving his home to go golfing. Authorities were able to track the vehicle by pinging the man’s cell phone and pursued the suspects into Oakdale. Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies and Oakdale Police assisted and at least two of the suspects were taken into custody.

The lockdown on the school was lifted by 8:30 a.m.
