The annual Scouting for Food effort is scheduled in Oakdale on Saturday, Nov. 9. Residents in Oakdale neighborhoods, primarily on the west side of town, can look for both Cub and Boy Scouts to be moving through the area, knocking on doors to collect canned food and non-perishable items. For those in other areas that don’t get a door-to-door visit, you can drop off donations at the Oakdale Youth Center, 297 Gilbert Ave., Oakdale, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, as there will be scout staff on hand to take in the donations.
Scouts will be canvassing neighborhoods from roughly 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; residents in the west end can also place boxes or bags of canned food donations on their doorsteps for pick up.
The four main local Troops/Packs will all be involved in the food drive, with the goal of helping stock the shelves of the local food cupboard ahead of the busy holiday season.
Scouting for Food is a nationwide event hosted in early November and is one of the many community service projects done by the local scout troop members.
