Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 8-6-25

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 29 through Monday, Aug. 4. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, AUG. 4

Battalion 2: Crews completed Monday apparatus inspections and maintenance.

1:46 p.m. – Brush 24, Brush 15, Brush 28, Grass 21, Grass 23, Water Tender 21, Water Tender 23, and BC2 responded to Lake Road at Turlock Lake for a vegetation fire. Brush 24 arrived to find a fire in the old Turlock Lake Tuolumne River campground surrounded on all but one side by campground roads. Approximately three-quarters of an acre burned with two hours mop up.

Battalion 5: 3:21 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26 and BC5 responded to a two-vehicle accident at Highway 108 and Adams Gravel Plant Road in Riverbank. Upon arrival there were two patients with minor injuries. Both parties refused medical treatment. CHP units on scene handled the crash investigation.

5:01 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a two-car accident on Crane and Patterson Road in a rural area of Oakdale. BC5 arrived on scene to find two cars that had collided. A total of four patients were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.

7:51 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7 and BC5 were dispatched to assist the city of Escalon on a working structure fire on Jerry Avenue. Upon arrival crews were given assignments to help extinguish a fire that had started in a back yard and burned an outbuilding and several large cypress trees.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 3

Battalion 2: 7:49 a.m. – Engine 23, Quint 22, and BC2 responded to Albers Road and Milnes Road for a vehicle accident. A single vehicle went into the irrigation ditch.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 attended training with BC1 and BC3 at Station 17 with various engine companies to refocus the training plan for the remainder of the year.

Crews caught up on Target Solutions training assignments.

Crews conducted in house training on fireground tactics at Station 27.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 2

Engine 2, Truck 5, Engine 9, Engine 10, Engine 12, and Quint 18 conducted Probationary Firefighter training at Station 17 in preparation for the upcoming seven-month testing.

Battalion 2: Engine 7, Battalions 2, 3, and 5 met at Station 22 and worked on First Due setup and training.

Crews completed quarterly boat and swiftwater rescue training at Turlock Lake inlet.

Battalion 5: Crews completed Target Solutions assignments, performed apparatus checks and station maintenance as well as company level training for Saturday Drill Day.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 1

Engines 26, 36, 38; Quint 22; Truck 5; and additional personnel participated in low-angle rope rescue training within Station 26’s FMA. This session marked the initial phase of preparations for establishing a REMS team.

Battalion 2: 5:25 a.m. – Units responded to Albers and Dusty for a vehicle vs. motorcyclist. Crews arrived on scene and found one confirmed fatality. CHP was on scene investigating. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased motorcyclist as Fernando Martinez, 25, of Delhi.

Crews completed quarterly boat and swiftwater rescue training at Turlock Lake inlet.

Battalion 5: Crews completed Target Solutions assignments.

Crews performed company level training in their respective FMAs along with performing apparatus checks and station maintenance.

E28 and E29 participated in quarterly water rescue training at the Turlock Lake inlet. Crews focused on live bait and rope rescue techniques.

More work was completed on the Wakefield fuel break behind Kerr Park in Oakdale. Crews will begin mulching all the cut material soon and once the project is completed there will be a 100’ shaded fuel break to limit fire spread. The project is a collaborative effort that includes the City of Oakdale, The Modesto Fire Department and CalFire.

Engine 27 and Battalion 5 attended Concert in the Park at Dorada Park in Oakdale. Crews were able to show the kids the fire engine and visit with the local community.

1:05 a.m. – Engine 27, Brush 28, Water Tender 27 and Battalion 5 responded to the report of a vegetation fire on Sierra. Brush 28 arrived on scene at Sierra and Wren roads with a vegetation fire burning along the railroad tracks. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and remained on scene for roughly 30 minutes for mop up.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 31

MFD training and battalion chief assisted Escalon Fire with a B/C promotional exam held at the RFTC.

Battalion 2: Crews completed quarterly boat and Swiftwater rescue training at Turlock Lake inlet.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 27 trained on pumping evolutions with OES 4617.

11:53 a.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Valley Home Road, cross of Michigan Avenue for a vehicle accident. Engine 28 arrived on scene with a two-vehicle accident, with one vehicle into a tree. One minor injury was treated on scene. The driver was extremely lucky as part of a chain link fence entered the passenger compartment, missing the driver by inches.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 30

MFD personnel attended a USAR Team informational meeting at the RFTC.

Battalion 2: Crews completed quarterly boat and swiftwater rescue training at Turlock Lake inlet.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 29 completed weekly apparatus checks and station maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.

Water Rescue 28 and Water Rescue 29 trained with other crews at Turlock Lake on boat operations and water rescue techniques.

2:32 p.m. – Engine 9 to McGee Avenue for a public assist. Firefighters found an elderly dog that had fallen into a canal. The crew used a ground ladder to access and remove the dog. He was reunited with his owner uninjured.

5:07 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Lon Dale and Valley Home Road for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved, treating one patient for minor injuries.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 29

BC Rice worked the day shift on the Boneyard Fire in the CalFire Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit. The fire was contained at 226 acres with crews working on full control of the fire.

Battalion 2: Crews celebrated FIU 7 BC Paul Spani’s retirement and last shift after 40 years of service.

Crews completed rotating through quarterly EMS training at Station 17.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Firefighters from all over the County wished BC Paul Spani from Stanislaus Consolidated a well-deserved retirement after a 40-year career. Congratulations Chief Spani!

11:12 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29 and Battalion 5 to Frankenheimer and Sonora roads for a vehicle accident with entrapment. Engine 29 arrived on scene to find a single vehicle off the roadway, down an embankment that had rolled. Both occupants were out but injured. Engine 29’s Firefighter/Paramedic began treatment of one immediate and one delayed patient. The immediate patient was flown by air ambulance to a local trauma center. The second patient was transported by ground ambulance.
