Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 18 through Monday, July 24. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JULY 24

Battalion 2: Paramedic School at Sac State and training for the new PCR program took place.

11:34 a.m. – Brush 1 and BC2 were dispatched to a vegetation fire in Station 25’s area. Several crews were out training, and the units were not cross-staffed. Engine 24 responded back to their station and responded in Brush 24. The call was upgraded to a high-level dispatch, adding Brush 28 and Engine 23. B24 arrived after TCU Engine 4456 to find approximately three acres of grass oak woodland mix on fire. Units assisted with containing the fire. The fire burned 6.2 acres in total.

Battalion 5: 9:30 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 conducted commercial fire attack drills that focused on hose line stretches for firefighters, engineer’s training, and company officer training for upcoming Captain candidates.

3:07 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 responded to a water rescue on the Stanislaus River near the Sonora Road Bridge. Water Rescue 29 quickly located three people stranded in the middle of the river with no lifejackets on and brought them safely to shore. There was no medical need so the responding balance was cancelled.

9:29 p.m. – Stanislaus Engine Brush 23, Water Tender 23, Engine 26, Modesto Engine 27, Water Tender 27, and Brush 28 responded to a vegetation and fence fire at Eleanor Avenue and Kentucky Avenue. Engine 26 arrived on scene of a roadside grass fire with a mix of light flashy fuels and bushes. Engine 26 and Engine 27 extinguished and mopped up the fire; the remaining balance was cancelled.

 

SUNDAY, JULY 23

8:47 p.m. – Modesto E7, BC1 and Stanislaus E26 responded to Claribel and Coffee roads for a two-vehicle collision. Crews assisted with patient care and assessment. One driver was transported with minor injuries to an area hospital. CHP was on scene to investigate.

Battalion 5: 12:59 p.m. – Modesto Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, Stanislaus Grass 21, Brush 23, Water Tender 23, Brush 24, and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire at Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Rice Road. Brush 24 arrived on scene with approximately 150’ of roadside grass fire not threatening anything. Brush 24 and Brush 28 extinguished and mopped up the area; the responding balance was cancelled.

10 p.m. – E28 responded to a vehicle versus pediatric pedestrian at Woodward Reservoir. The patient was flown to a specialty hospital for further care.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 22

Battalion 2: 11:34 p.m. – Stanislaus E26 and Modesto BC1 responded to the intersection of Antique Rose Way and Novi Drive in Riverbank for a solo motorcycle accident with major injuries. Crews arrived on scene and provided care and assisted with care while enroute to an area hospital. Sheriff’s Office major accident investigation team was on scene.

Battalion 5: 11:34 p.m. – G28, G27, WT27 and BC5 responded to Sonora Road and Frankenheimer Road for a vegetation fire. Units were assisted by CalFire units. The fire was contained to approximately half an acre.

 

FRIDAY, JULY 21

Battalion 2: 11:11 a.m. – Brush 23, Brush 24, Brush 27, Water Tender 27, and BC2 responded to Albers and Milnes for a vegetation fire. Brush 23 arrived to find a small fire and canceled the balance.

Battalion 5: E28 performed company level training focusing on hose estimations and pulls.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 20

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Several MST members attended Logistics training hosted by CalFire TCU at Frogtown Fairgrounds in Angels Camp. Training focused on supporting an incident in the initial days and setting up a base camp at the fairgrounds.

6:01 p.m. – Engines 26, 27, 28, 7, 21, Squad 11, Quint 22, Water Tenders 21, 23 and 27, Battalions 1 and 5 responded to Langworth Road for a working structure fire. First arriving crews found a 30’ x 40’ shop well involved with one residential structure immediately threatened. Crews initiated a driveway lay for water tender operations as the area has no fire hydrants. Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire, confining it to the shop. The FIU was on scene conducting a cause and origin investigation.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 19

Deputy Chief Jesberg received recognition for his 10 years of service with the Modesto Fire Department.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Crews trained on hoseline deployment and pumping evolutions.

Engine 29 and Battalion 5 gave a presentation on the MST water rescue program to the Oakdale Rotary Club.

4:31 p.m. – Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to Crane and Highway 108 for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene with two vehicles involved with the westbound lanes of Highway 108 blocked. Crews evaluated two patients. One refused treatment and the other was treated for minor injuries. That patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

11:56 p.m. – Engine 27 responded to North Yosemite and East A Street for a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle into a light pole with the vehicle well involved. The lone occupant was able to self-extricate from the vehicle and was treated for minor injuries. The vehicle fire was extinguished without incident. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. City of Oakdale Public Works, OPD and PG&E responded as well.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 18

Battalion 5: 12:15 p.m. – Modesto Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, Brush 29, Stanislaus Grass 26 and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire in the 12000 block of Rodden Road. Upon arrival Brush 28 had a quarter of an acre of grass on fire on the hillside just off Rodden Road. Brush 28 quickly stopped the forward progress and Brush 29 assisted with mopping up the area; the remaining balance was cancelled. The fire was accidentally caused by the property owner.
