The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 13 through Monday, June 19. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JUNE 19
Battalion 2: 9:35 a.m. – E9, E22 and BC2 responded to the report of an injury accident at Wellsford and Milnes. Two vehicles were involved, a total of five people involved, all AMA’d; released against medical advice.
Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday apparatus and equipment checks.
E28 assisted with the Fire Academy training on wildland tactics and strategies.
2:57 p.m. – E7, E26, Truck 5 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to the area of Claribel and Coffee for two vehicles involved in an accident with an entrapment. E7 arrived with medic and CHP at scene and reported two vehicles involved. The medic stated there was no entrapment and only minor injuries. All additional units were canceled. CHP investigating.
SUNDAY, JUNE 18
Battalion 2: Crews completed EMS inventory.
Engine 26’s crew participated in water rescue training.
Battalion 5: 9 a.m. – Modesto Water Rescues 18, 28, 29, and Stanislaus Consolidated Water Rescue 24 along with Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies trained on boat operations together on the Stanislaus River near Knights Ferry.
9:29 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries near the intersection of Crane Road and Patterson Road for a motorcyclist vs. bicyclist. Upon arrival there was one bicyclist down in the roadway with injuries and the other involved party reporting no injuries. The bicyclist was deemed a delayed patient and transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. CHP is investigating the accident.
SATURDAY, JUNE 17
Battalion 2: Engine 26 participated in a flag retirement ceremony with the American Veterans First.
10:30 p.m. – A potential structure fire was reported in the 400 block of North Riverside Drive. Vegetation fire in the backyard threatening the structure. Engine 21 was the first to arrive and contained the fire to a small area. The balance was canceled. The cause is under investigation. Fireworks were heard in the area prior.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 and BC5 conducted company officer training with personnel interested in taking the Captain’s test. The focus of the training was wildland response with Cal Fire.
11:33 a.m. – Modesto Engine 29, Stanislaus Engine 24, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries involving a motorcycle at Willms Road and Warnerville Road. Upon arrival there was one motorcyclist down on the side of the roadway suffering minor injuries. Engine 29 canceled the responding balance, and the patient was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
2:09 p.m. – Modesto Water Rescue 28, Engine 29, and BC5 were dispatched to a water rescue at Woodward Reservoir. While enroute crews were notified that the patient had been brought to shore; however, there was an additional water rescue with a person stranded at a buoy. Engine 29 provided patient care for the initial patient at shore while Water Rescue 28 checked the first dispatched location to confirm that the subject was out of the water. Sheriff’s deputies retrieved the stranded person at the buoy that had no medical complaint.
4:52 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 were dispatched to a water rescue in the 11000 block of Rodden Road for reports of rafters stuck on the river and unable to get out. Engine 27 was able to get a visual of the rafters from shore and confirmed that it was two occupants stranded. Water Rescue’s 28 and 29 launched from Orange Blossom Recreation and onloaded the two subjects to their boats and brought them back to Orange Blossom Recreation for medical evaluation.
FRIDAY, JUNE 16
Battalion 5: Crews trained at Station 17 in preparation for their 10-month firefighter test.
Engine 28 assisted Oakdale Police Department with opening a safe.
THURSDAY, JUNE 15
Battalion 5: Engine 28 conducted company level training on ground ladders.
5:37 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to the Cowboy Museum in Oakdale for a kitten stuck in a storm drain. They were able to quickly remove the kitten. A person at the museum took possession of the kitten.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14
Battalion 2: Crews focused on apparatus and station maintenance.
E22 and E23 participated in ambulance familiarization training.
Battalion 5: Crews participated in E26 FMA training at Kiva Energy in Riverbank.
TUESDAY, JUNE 13
Battalion 2: All stations performed engine and station maintenance.
E22 and E23 trained on porta tank operations.
11:26 a.m. – Grass 26 responded with SQ11 to the area of McHenry and Stewart in the Salida Fire District for an unknown type of fire. SQ11 arrived to find an unattended ag burn threatening to spread to the river bottom and requested Grass 26. Both crews contained the fire to the burn pile and cut a containment line to limit spread.
7:14 p.m. – WR24, WR28, E23 and BC2 were dispatched to the report of a female in the Tuolumne River yelling for help in the area of river trail park. Boat 24 launched and found the female at the shoreline just under the Hickman Bridge. She was picked up and taken back to the launch where she was checked out by EMS and refused treatment.
