Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 6-19-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 11 through Monday, June 17. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JUNE 17

Chief Wise presented 20-year certificates to several members recognizing tenure in the fire service. Congratulations to Engineers Barnwell, Walker, Haas; Captains Steffen, Albrecht, McAndrews and Satariano.

Battalion 2: 8:22 p.m. – Brush 24 was deployed with XST 4200C to the Aero incident in Copperopolis, Calaveras County.

Battalion 5: Grass 27, Brush 28, Grass 29 and Battalion Chief 5 responded to the Aero Fire in Copperopolis as part of the initial attack in the early stages of the fire. Crews remained on scene throughout the night. Personnel backfilled the stations and provided coverage.

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 16

Battalion 2: 12:07 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to the report of a vehicle accident with a pin in on Finnigan Court in Riverbank. On scene, crews found a vehicle in the front yard with one occupant still inside. They were able to open the door and gain access to the patient. Firefighter E-26 rode into the hospital to assist Oak Valley paramedic with patient care. Crews were released from the scene by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

Battalion 5: Engine 28 attending multi-company training at Station 17.

2:15 p.m. – Brush 28 responded with CalFire to a reported vegetation fire at Woodward Reservoir. On scene a small grass fire was found. Brush 28 and one CalFire engine were able to handle.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 15

Battalion 2: 8:47 p.m. – Engine 22, Grass and Water Tender 21, Brush and Water Tender 23, Brush 15, Brush 1, Grass 19, Grass 3, Brush 24, Skid Steer 17, BC1, and BC2 all responded to a vegetation fire at the end of Codoni Avenue. The fire was approximately three- to five-acres upon arrival. Access was the biggest challenge and once it was identified crews were able to contain the fire to 7.9 acres. Skid Steer 17 cut a line around the three sides that hadn’t bumped the river.

Battalion 5: 1 p.m. – Over the course of the afternoon Engine 28, Engine 29, Water Rescue 28 and Water Rescue 29 along with Battalion 5 responded to multiple calls for service at Woodward Reservoir. These calls included medical aid, one vehicle accident and one water rescue. The heat and the large crowds led to an increase in calls for service.

4:49 p.m. – Engine 27, Brush 28, and Battalion 5 responded to a vegetation fire in the 1400 block of Poplar. Crews were advised that a riding lawn mower had caught fire and spread to the grass and several fences. On scene responding units found a quarter-acre vegetation fire in a large vacant lot that had spread to the fence line and several debris piles. With the high winds there was a threat to one structure, but the crews were able to get hose lines around the fire and prevent any damage to the house.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 14

Battalion 2: 12:05 a.m. – Engine 26 was dispatched to the area of Highway 108 and Claus. Engine 26 arrived to find a male approximately 50 down an embankment who claimed a boulder fell on his leg and he was unable to walk. Engine 26 upgraded the incident to a technical rescue which brought Rescue 11, Truck 1, Truck 5, Medic 1, and Battalion 1. Crews stabilized the patient and extricated him with no issues. Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department provided road closure.

Stanislaus Engines 21 and 26 trained at Station 17 in preparation for upcoming firefighter testing.

7:59 a.m. – Engine 23, Engine 22, and BC2 responded to Milnes and Albers roads for a vehicle rollover. Engine 23 treated one with minor injuries, CHP is investigating.

Battalion 5: Engine 28 and Engine 27 conducted probationary training on patient care.

2:17 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to Woodward Reservoir for a teenager that was injured in a jet ski accident. E28 provided patient care and the teen was flown to a Modesto hospital for precaution for a potential internal traumatic injury.

7:16 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus Consolidated units were dispatched to a working structure fire on East C Street in Oakdale. On arrival crews found a male patient that had received burns to his hands after trying to light a candle too close to a bottle of rubbing alcohol. After it ignited, he traveled with it to several different rooms in the house, starting small fires. The fires were quickly extinguished, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 13

Battalion 2: Stanislaus crews completed Thursday station exterior maintenance.

Battalion 5: Engine 27’s probationary firefighter continued to prepare for the upcoming seven-month test. He trained on hose deployment, victim rescue, drip torch and trash pump skills.

12:17 a.m. – Brush 29 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a vegetation fire on Milton Road near Highway 4. CalFire assisted and the fire was contained in 25 minutes; 3.8 acres of dry grass burned.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12

Battalion 5: Companies completed a second rotation of 27 FMA Training. The training focused on pre-fire planning of the H-B Saloon building in Oakdale. The two-story building has a mixture of commercial and residential use; companies went over proper strategy and tactics to use while operating on a fire at the building.

6:44 p.m. – Stanislaus Engine 26, Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with entrapment at Highway 120 and Cleveland Avenue in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene with three vehicles involved blocking the roadway. There was one immediate patient entrapped that crews extricated from the vehicle and three other patients with minor injuries that had self-extricated from their vehicles. The immediate patient was transported to a local trauma center by air ambulance while two patients with minor injuries were transported by ground ambulance. One patient with minor injuries was released AMA, against medical advice, in order to self-transport.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 11

Battalion 2: 1:04 p.m. – Units were dispatched to a motorcycle vs. a train report in the area of Willms and Cooperstown roads. Stanislaus Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the area and located an abandoned motorcycle near the tracks; no trains had been in the area for several hours, no victim was found, and the response was canceled.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 hosted FMA training which included E7, E22, E28 and Battalion 5. Crews pre-fire planned the commercial property including the H-B Saloon and adjoining businesses in Oakdale.

6:38 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 responded to a report of a water rescue on the Stanislaus River near Russian Rapids. Water Rescue 29 found two subjects out of the water on the riverbank with no medical needs. The responding balance was cancelled.
