Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 6-12-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 4 through Monday, June 10. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JUNE 10

Battalion 5: Crews performed Monday apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Companies performed training in their respective FMA’s.

2:58 p.m. – Grass 27 and Water Tender 27 responded to assist San Joaquin County on a vegetation fire at Carrolton and River Road.

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 9

Battalion 2: Engine 22 and Engine 26 trained on upcoming firefighter testing at Station 17.

Battalion 5: 12:36 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 29, Water Rescue 24, and BC5 responded to the 5000 block of River Road in Oakdale for a water rescue. Water Rescue 29 was able to locate and safely bring three people to shore who had become stuck on the opposite riverbank that was overgrown with vegetation. There was no medical need, and the ambulance was cancelled.

5:14 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Engine 23, Engine 24, Engine 26, Quint 18, Medic 1, BC2, BC5, and FIU responded to a residential working structure fire near West Avenue and West H Street in Oakdale. Upon arrival Engine 28 confirmed that the source of the smoke was from a smoker in the backyard of the residence. The responding balance was cancelled.

11:46 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27 was dispatched to an unknown type of fire near Langworth Road and Epperson Court. Engine 27 arrived on-scene of an agriculture commodity facility with a large pile of hulls on fire as well as an acre of vegetation. Engine 27 called for additional resources bringing Grass 21, Water Tender 21, Brush 23, Water Tender 23, Grass 26, Brush 28, BC2, and BC5 to the scene. Crews worked for two hours to extinguish the fire with the help of facility staff using front end loaders to move the product from the burning pile of hulls.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 8

Battalion 2: 5:29 a.m. – Engine 23 and 24 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 132 near Modesto Reservoir. After checking the area, crews finally located a vehicle down the embankment approximately 50 feet below the highway. Rescue 11 and Engine 28 were added to the response. One patient was in the vehicle with major injuries. He was packaged and carried out to the air ambulance and was flown to a Modesto hospital.

Battalion 5: 7:41 a.m. – Engine 29, Engine 27, Water Tender 27, Engine 22, Engine 23, Engine 24, Water Tender 23, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a working residential structure fire on Lancaster Road in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and found an old large two-story home well involved and initiated a defensive fire attack. Crews set up rural water supply operations and quickly had water on the fire. The blaze was brought under control in 30 minutes. There were no injuries, and the fire is under investigation by the Stanislaus Regional FIU.

10:35 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 23, Engine 24, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a residential working structure fire in the 1000 block of East J Street in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and found fire from the side of the structure. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and had the fire under control in 15 minutes. Nobody was home at the time and several cats were rescued from the fire. There were no injuries and the Stanislaus Regional FIU is conducting the investigation.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 7

Battalion 2: Station 26 worked on search and rescue.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained with their probationary firefighter on hose pulls, performed a RIC drill, gave a ground school on the RIC bag and went over EPI administration.

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 6

Battalion 2: Crews completed landscape maintenance.

The interview panels completed the second day of interviews for new firefighters.

Engine companies worked on completing the second quarter business inspections.

Battalion 5: 5:41 p.m. – Modesto Engine 9, Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with entrapment at Orange Blossom Road and Wamble Road for a report of a head on collision. Upon arrival there were two vehicles involved with one on its side. There was a total of two immediate patients; one who needed to be extricated from the vehicle and one that was a pediatric patient. There was one deceased that also needed to be extricated from another vehicle. Both immediate patients were transported by air ambulances from the scene.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5

Battalion 2: Truck 5, Engine 7, Squad 11, Quint 22, Engine 26, Engine 27, BC2, and BC5 attended a walkthrough of the new Costco in Riverbank. The focus of the training was on access, building construction, and fire suppression systems.

Battalion 5: 5:57 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 2 responded to a drowning in the 9000 block of Rice Road. The patient was out of the water when crews arrived. The crew assisted the ambulance with ALS care and the patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 4

Battalion 2: 5:45 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to Eighth Street in Riverbank for an EMS call following a natural gas leak call 30 minutes earlier at the same location. An ambulance and Engine 27 were requested. Oak Valley assessed patients and Engine 27 confirmed normal readings. No further action taken.

Battalion 5: 9:31 a.m. – Engine 9, Engine 21, Engine 23, Water Tender 23, Engine 24, Engine 26, Quint 22, BC2, and BC5 responded to the report of a house fire in Fire Station 30’s area. (Valley Home). Crews arrived to find a mobile home on the back of a property that was well involved. Crews performed searches to confirm it was unoccupied and extinguished the fire. All occupants of the property were accounted for and no damage to the main house occurred.

12:04 p.m. – Brush 29 and BC5 assisted CalFire TCU with a vegetation fire at Highway 108 and Green Springs Road. Fire was contained to 13 acres.

2:34 p.m. – Water Rescue 29, Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded for a person stuck on a rock and unable to get back to shore near the covered bridge at Knights Ferry Rec. Water Rescue 29 launched their boat from Station 29 and quickly accessed the patient and brought them to shore. All other units cleared.

8:40 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28 and BC5 responded for a hiker down in Knights Ferry Rec area. Patient was found a quarter-mile up the dirt trail and down the bank along the river. Crews used a stokes basket and “mule” to get the patient up the hill to the ambulance for transport. The rescue took a total of nine personnel to complete.
