The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 5 through Monday, Dec. 11. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, DEC. 11
Members from the Central Valley Incident Management Team began the first day of a weeklong class O-305 All Hazard Type 3 IMT training. This class will develop the necessary skills to better handle incidents that extend for multiple operational periods.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed station maintenance.
SUNDAY, DEC. 10
Battalion 2: 6:21 a.m. – Engine 26 dispatched to a vegetation fire in the 7000 block of First Street. On arrival a 30x30’ homeless encampment fire was found. E26 was able to extinguish without any assistance.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed station maintenance.
Members did pre-course work and readied the IMT trailer for the upcoming O-305 class.
SATURDAY, DEC. 9
Battalion 2: Engines 24 and 26 each participated in a Christmas parade in their individual cities. A big thank you to Director Bernardi and his wife for decorating the EV utility at Station 26 for the parade.
Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 29 participated in the Valley Home Christmas Parade.
Station 27’s crew worked on preparing the Incident Management Team Trailer and equipment for the 0305 class that will be taking place throughout the coming week.
FRIDAY, DEC. 8
Battalion 2: 6:12 p.m. – Engines 24 and 28 responded to a vehicle accident in the Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Milnes Road area. One person on scene was released against medical advice, and three people fled the scene. The vehicle had major damage.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted company level training.
Crews worked on station and apparatus maintenance.
THURSDAY, DEC. 7
MST firefighter academy continued with Engine Company training evolutions at Fire Station 17.
Battalion 2: 2:21 p.m. – BC2 was traveling eastbound on Highway 132, a westbound pickup truck lost its trailer. The trailer just missed BC’s vehicle in the eastbound lane and hit the vehicle behind BC2 (negative injuries). While waiting for CHP to arrive, a second accident occurred in the westbound lane. One person had a complaint of pain and was evaluated by Q22’s paramedic and refused treatment.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 assisted with the MST firefighter academy at Fire Station 17.
BC5 attended the Oakdale Fire District Board meeting.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 6
MST firefighter academy continued training at Fire Station 17.
Battalion 2: E21 and Q22 trained at the RFTC (ladders and rope rescue).
7:43 p.m. – Engine 23, E9, E28 and BC2 responded to Albers south of Milnes for a vehicle rollover. One patient was trapped under the vehicle and was deceased and one patient was transported to a local hospital. CHP is investigating.
Battalion 5: 5:07 a.m. – MST units to Highway 108 for a working structure fire. First arriving firefighters found a 30’ x 50’ abandoned wood building at Highway 108 and Orchard well involved. Crews were able to get a quick knockdown with no damage to powerlines or another nearby structure. The FIU is investigating.
8:02 a.m. – Engine 27 responded to the previous fire scene at Highway 108 and Orchard. On scene they had a fire on the roof of an adjacent building and not the original fire building. Crews overhauled and extinguished and then monitored the fire through the shift.
TUESDAY, DEC. 5
MST chief officers attended their monthly meeting at Fire Administration.
Crews attended the HazMat annual planning meeting for next year’s training schedule.
Battalion 2: Companies finished up end of the year company and target solutions training.
E23 and Q22 worked on rope rescue techniques.
Battalion 5: 8:07 a.m. – Engine 27, 26, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 to Oak Avenue for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene with an audible water flow alarm sounding. After searching the building, it was determined that the alarm system was malfunctioning. OVHD maintenance staff arrived and started repairs.
Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Engine 27 trained on vertical ventilation.
Crews trained on Q18 Engineer sign offs.
10:22 p.m. – Engines 27, 28, 26, 23, 24, Quint 22, Medic 1, Battalions 2 and 5 to South Maag Avenue for a residential working structure fire. Crews arrived on scene with nothing showing. After further investigation, firefighters located a small fire in a bathroom ventilation fan that was out. No extension into the home was found. Engines 27 and 28 remained on scene removing the fan and ventilating the home. The balance of the assignment was cancelled. OPD was on scene assisting with traffic control.
