A vehicle collision along Pontiac Street in Oakdale, east of Reed Road, on Sunday morning resulted in the death of an elderly driver.

According to the California Highway Patrol report, the 86-year-old man was driving a 2017 Lincoln MKZ eastbound on Pontiac Street, where it struck a parked Dodge Ram pick-up. The incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as Jerry Murphy, 86, of Oakdale.

The CHP was called to the scene after the Oakdale Police Department initially responded and requested assistance from CHP in handling the collision report. The Lincoln was found resting against the rear of the parked pick-up and was facing eastbound, partially in the eastbound lane of Pontiac Street and partially blocking a city sidewalk.

There was damage to the left front end of the Lincoln and the right rear bumper of the pick-up. The driver, who authorities said was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was suspected to have had a cardiac arrest prior to the collision. Murphy was transported to Oak Valley Hospital and later pronounced deceased at the facility.

The collision remains under investigation; the pick-up was parked and there were no occupants in that vehicle. Murphy was the only person in the Lincoln.
