A couple of special programs this week are aimed at local senior citizens, including the availability of Nutrition Program coupons at tonight’s downtown Farmer’s Market.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight, June 8, seniors 60 and older that live in Stanislaus County and have a limited income can pick up the Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program coupons. The booklet contains a total of $20 in coupons, five of them worth $4 each, that can be used like cash at Certified Farmer’s Markets to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, honey or edible herbs. They are available on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last.

To be eligible, seniors must be on a limited income of $1,815 per month or less for an individual and under $2,456 per month for a household of two. The Oakdale Farmer’s Market is hosted each Wednesday on North Third Avenue.

Also, get ready for the Oakdale Senior Information Day on Friday, June 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave.

The day will include informational booths, free health screenings, raffle drawings, a complimentary lunch and free shuttle service from the Senior Center on A Street. The Senior Information Day is sponsored by the City of Oakdale and Oak Valley Hospital District. This year is the 15th annual information day for local seniors.
