County School

Board Visit

The public is invited to stop by Stanislaus County Office of Education’s (SCOE) booth at the fair on Wednesday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to meet members of the Stanislaus County Board of Education and County Superintendent of Schools Tom Changnon. The Superintendent and these five elected board members are responsible for making major policy decisions in the area of budgeting, curriculum, and advance planning for the County Office of Education. The Superintendent and several Board members will be available to answer questions and provide information about SCOE.

Classic Car Show

The Oakdale Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar Ave., Oakdale, will host a pancake breakfast and classic car show on Saturday, July 16 at the church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no cost to show your car and all are welcome to attend. Movies Under

The Stars

Center for Human Services will present its second installment of Movies Under the Stars this Saturday, July 16 at Cottles Woods Park at dusk. Minions is the movie to be shown. No charge to attend, open to all. In conjunction with the event, the Center for Human Services is hosting a backpack supplies drive; you can help by making a donation of school supplies, which will be accepted at movie night and help local kids in need. The Aug. 20 movie will be Norm of the North.

 

Toastmasters Meet

In Riverbank Area

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 20. VFW Hamburger

Nights Continue

Oakdale’s VFW Post is gearing up for the next of its monthly hamburger night fundraisers, with Wednesday, Aug. 3 the date for the next event. Hours are from 5:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m., at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds clubhouse. Attendees can stay after eating to socialize. All donations at the dessert table at the monthly dinner go to purchase wreaths for Wreaths Across America. The local VFW and Auxiliary’s goal is to have a wreath on every grave at the Santa Nella Veterans cemetery.
