The 2018 version of the Young Eagles free airplane ride event is slated for Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Airport, 8198 Laughlin Road. The event will be held prior to the grand opening of the Oakdale Airport Flight Center, which authorities say has not yet been scheduled by the City of Oakdale as the completion date remains uncertain.

Free Young Eagle flights are offered for kids ages eight through 17 who must have a parent or guardians’ signature. A bonus feature added this year includes a limited number of Eagle Flights for big kids ages 18 through 80 as time permits.

The program sponsors, EAA, (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter 90 were hopeful that the new Oakdale Flight Center would be completed for this year’s event to offer an added education element in the works by the Friends of Oakdale Airport Association. The Airport Appreciation Day, which is normally produced in conjunction with the Young Eagles event, will not happen until next year after the all-volunteer work by Oakdale Lions Club volunteers headed up by Project Manager Doug Campbell is completed.
