On Saturday, Feb. 19 at Karate For Kids, 3342 Santa Fe in Riverbank, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a car wash and bake sale to raise funds for one of the Karate For Kids students who is in need of heart surgery. They are accepting donations in any amount for the car wash. While the supporters’ cars or trucks are being washed they can enjoy some food and beverages that will be available, again for an unspecified donation amount. On the menu, they will have hot dogs, chips, cookies, baked goods and beverages. Everyone who donates will also receive a coupon for a free karate lesson. Pizza Plus in downtown Riverbank will help raise funds by donating a portion of their proceeds for that day. Both dine in and take out are available from the extensive pizza, sandwich, salad and soup menu. The Pizza Plus fundraiser is at 3308 Santa Fe Street. Don’t miss the fundraisers in downtown Riverbank.

According to Karate for Kids owner Scott Pettit, “this young boy has been training with us for several years and was planning to test for his Black Belt in a few months, which now is put on hold due to his sudden illness. He and his parents have helped us serve this community at various fundraisers for worthy causes and now we hope that the community will help them.”

A second effort will benefit an area 10-year-old. Jordan Stilwell, who has autism, fell ill on Thursday, Jan. 31. He was rushed to UC Davis Children’s Hospital where he remains in a very fragile state. His diagnosis is unclear. The deductible for medical insurance is huge. To help, his family and friends need your help to raise enough money to pay this bill to ease just one burden from his parents, Oakdale Police Officer Don Stillwell and Sherrill and Brian Petersen. They have remained by his side faithfully through the ordeal.

A fundraising spaghetti dinner is set for Saturday, Feb. 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sam’s Café, 3052 Fifth Street, Ceres.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 per person at the door. The tickets are available at Oakdale Police Department, Ceres Police Department, Ceres Fire Station #1, and Sam’s Café.

There will also be a bake sale and silent auction.
