Interested in mentoring a high school student as he or she transitions to college? The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) is currently looking for mentors for its ‘6 Cups to College’ Mentor Program. This program is designed to help high school students as they transition to college and early college students as they prepare for careers. Community members are paired with students who would most benefit from assistance with college and career guidance. Mentors and mentees are matched by gender, and when possible, by college major/career interest.

Several orientation sessions are coming up and will be held at SCOE, 1100 H St., Modesto (Patterson Room). Upcoming orientation sessions are slated for: Tuesday, May 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Wednesday, May 23 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Thursday, June 28 from noon to 1 p.m.

Give back by sharing your college experience with a local high school junior or senior; meet six times during the course of the school year at mutually convenient times and locations.

Volunteer mentors assist with college planning, the application process, scholarship searches, etc.

Receive training and support from SCOE’s College and Career Planning Department prior to being paired with a student.
