A 29-year-old Oakdale woman is clinging to life after being hit by a vehicle while crossing F Street at Sixth Street Wednesday, May 5 around 9:45 p.m.

Shauna Marie Shoemake was wearing light covered clothes but according to police may have been on her cell phone when she attempted to cross the street.

The driver of the Lexus sedan, Jeffery Perkins, 66, was on his way home to Tiburon, down from Sonora when he struck the woman.

Perkins claimed he was unaware of what he’d hit until he made a U-turn to investigate.

Shoemake is listed in intensive care at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Drug and alcohol are not believed to play a role in the collision.

A month ago Oakdale Police conducted a pedestrian sting in March at that same intersection, citing more than 30 people for failure to yield.

Check the May 11 issue of The Oakdale Leader for more details on this incident.
