Varsity Soccer Boys Continue To Slide

Oakdale’s varsity boys soccer team has had a rough preseason. The team has dropped four straight contests, including some in tournament play. This past week the Mustangs dropped two non-conference games.

 On Monday, Dec. 11 the boys hosted Galt, where they lost 5-1. Oakdale gave up three first half goals and did not find the net until late in the second half. Their lone goal came off the foot of Westen Wright, unassisted. Working the goal for Oakdale was Philip Knieriere in the first half, and Nathan Richardson came in for the second half. Richardson had four saves in the game.

On Wednesday the boys hosted Livingston and were shut out 3-0 by the Wolves. Oakdale fell behind 2-0 in the first half and could not find the net in the second half either. Knieriere had four first half saves, while Richardson also had four second half saves against the aggressive Livingston Wolves.

The Mustangs finished the preseason with a 3-5-1 record, and opened the regular season on Monday, Dec. 18 at Manteca. The Valley Oak League season opener was held following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale’s home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 20 against East Union with a scheduled start time of 5:45 p.m.

Last season Oakdale finished 9-3-2 in the Valley Oak League, in second place behind East Union.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS

The junior varsity team has been dealing with injuries, but still battled it out in a pair of non-conference games this past week. On Monday, Dec. 11 the boys were shut out by Galt 2-0 and fell to Livingston 3-1 on Wednesday night. Down 2-0 in the first half, Julian Renteria scored just before halftime off an assist from Brandon Martinez. In the second half Oakdale had 11 shots on goal but could not get it to fall.

 

VARSITY GIRLS

The varsity girls split their non-conference action this past week. The Lady Mustangs lost to Modesto on Wednesday, Dec. 13 by a 3-0 final. However the girls bounced back with a 3-0 road win over Venture Academy on Friday, Dec. 15. Talia Millard, Krissy Lolonis and Viviana Albor each scored goals for Oakdale. Sharing the ball and getting assists were Millard, Albor and Brianna Montoya. Megan Humphrey earned a shutout win as the goalkeeper. The girls traveled to Sonora on Tuesday, Dec. 19 following The Leader’s press time. During the preseason Oakdale played all six games on the road. They open their Valley Oak League season at home against Manteca on Thursday, Dec. 21 with a 5:45 p.m. start time.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS

The junior varsity girls only had one game this past week when they defeated Modesto 1-0 on Dec. 13. Oakdale wrapped up the preseason at Sonora on Tuesday, Dec. 19 following The Leader’s press time. The Lady Mustangs host their first two Valley Oak League games beginning Thursday, Dec. 21 against Manteca at 4 p.m. and will host East Union on Thursday, Jan. 2.
