The race for the second Oakdale City Council seat remains close with current council member Michael Brennan leading city treasurer Mike Murray by two votes.

Jason Howard has already clinched the other council seat.

According to Stanislaus County Registrar Lee Lundrigan, 5,630 provisional ballots in the county are continuing to be processed by county staff. No provisional ballots have been counted yet.

Lundrigan said following the completion of the provisional preparation process all remaining uncounted ballots will be counted and the statement of the vote will be prepared. California law requires certification of this election to be on or before Nov. 30, 2010, which is 28 days following Election Day.

According to current tallies, Brennan has 1,687 votes to Murray’s 1,685.

Pat Paul continues to lead incumbent Farrell Jackson 2,798 votes to 2,561 in the race for Oakdale mayor. Paul has 51.92 percent of the vote, with Jackson tallying 47.54.
