Classrooms have been moved, new staff has been orientated and pencils have been sharpened as the Oakdale Joint Unified School District anticipates the first day of school on Thursday, Aug.6. The first school bells will ring promptly at 7:40 a.m. Thursday morning at East Stanislaus, Oakdale Junior High and Oakdale High School.

Elementary school bell times are: Magnolia - 7:50 a.m.; Fair Oaks - 8 a.m.; Sierra View - 8:05 a.m. and Cloverland - 8:10 a.m.

Enrollment is up slightly for the 2015-16 school year, with just over 5300 students currently registered with OJUSD. On Wednesday, July 29 close to 800 students and another 1500-plus on Thursday and Friday attended Round-ups at Oakdale High and Junior High schools.

Fair Oaks once again has the largest number of students enrolled with over 850 registered. That fact is being reviewed by the district for consideration in zoning for the 2016-17 school year. Sierra View is close behind with nearly 700 students attending the kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school. Magnolia Elementary has just over 600 students registered and Cloverland just over 500.

Attendance numbers of all OJUSD sites tend to fluctuate within the first three weeks of school, officials said, as well as throughout the school year.

Back to School nights have been planned and will be hosted Tuesday, Aug. 11 at OJHS; Thursday, Aug. 13 Oakdale Elementary Schools; Tuesday, Aug 18 East Stanislaus; Wednesday, Aug. 19 Oakdale Charter and Thursday, Aug. 20 at OHS.

The first OJUSD School Board meeting for the 2015-2016 school year will be hosted on Monday, Aug. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Oakdale City Council Chambers.
