Stiff Wind Downs Trees

Down she goes! This large tree couldn't withstand the whipping winds and toppled to the ground. Fortunately, it fell away from busy Maag Avenue and into the drainage basin below. No one was injured when it fell, Wednesday, Nov. 30. - photo by Kim Van Meter/The Leader

Dubbed an "epic windstorm" by Weather.com, the blustery storm didn't spare Oakdale as it blew through town Wednesday, Nov. 30, downing trees all over the city, including two at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club and a large tree on Maag Avenue near the junior high as well as a power pole or two. Wind gusts in the Oakdale area were approximately 30 mph but areas in Los Angeles were hit with winds as high as 100 mph. The wind storm continued into Thursday, Dec. 1 with spotty power outages in some affected areas. In the foothill areas, PG&E reported 8,000 customers out of power in Sonora

and in the nearby communities of Arnold, Jamestown, Twain Harte, and Groveland. This represents a large percentage of the areas population. The windy weather was expected to fade away by the weekend, but markedly cooler temperatures would remain.
