Sipe Is Grand Marshal
GM Sipe

The Oakdale Saddle Club is proud to announce Vanetta Sipe as the 2018 Oakdale Rodeo Parade Grand Marshal. Lovingly known to many as “the corn dog lady,” Sipe has a long history with the Oakdale Saddle Club.

She was born in Arnold, Nebraska in 1918. After moving to Oakdale in 1957, Sipe soon became a member of the Oakdale Saddle Club, and was its 22nd member, to be exact. With 62 years of membership under her belt, Sipe is one of the longest standing active members of the club. Not only has Sipe been an active member but her son, Len is also an Oakdale Saddle Club member and her daughter Lanetta was the 1970 Miss Oakdale Rodeo Queen.

Every year at the rodeo, you will find Sipe at her corn dog stand serving her corn dogs; she has been serving them for the past 50 years. Local residents might remember her from other events at the rodeo grounds as well, and she can usually be found at the Junior Rodeo in August.

Vanetta Sipe is turning 100 years old this June and still going strong. Her selection as the 2018 Grand Marshal is a way for the community to thank her for her contributions to the Oakdale Saddle Club.
