Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency was the name of the game Monday night as Oakdale Joint Unified School District moved forward in taking advantage of funding by way of Proposition 39.
The district has partnered with Noresco, LLC in an Energy Services Agreement, which will aid with improvement of lighting fixtures and efficiency throughout the district.
Rob Reading of Noresco addressed the board, noting the company’s impressive résumé with other districts throughout the state, including neighboring Waterford.
“The overall program itself, the majority of the program funding comes from Prop. 39,” Reading shared.
He noted that of the more than $1 million awarded to OJUSD for the improvements, “It’s not money the district is having to pull from anywhere.”
Work at the varying school sites is expected to begin in as soon as six to eight weeks once final details are shored up with Dan Casey and his department. A number of areas are to be addressed including interior and exterior lighting, air conditioning efficiency as well as the high school pool.
“You’re going to see roughly eight percent total energy savings, which translates on your budget to about $65,000 per year,” Reading told the board.
The overall savings to the district over its lifetime is estimated at $1 million.
Proposition 39, the California Clean Energy Jobs Act, was voter approved in November of 2012 during the general election.
The regular Monday night meeting was begun with the Pledge of Allegiance being led by Fair Oaks Elementary students Griffin Galuppi, Jacob Johnson and Glen Weber.
The next OJUSD Board meeting will be hosted on Monday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakdale City Council Chambers, 277 N. Second Ave., Oakdale.
