Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department officials have released the identity of the person found near Jacob Myers Park in the Stanislaus River – the man was identified as John Denys, 48. County coroner’s officials listed his residence as Riverbank.

The original call to the sheriff’s department came in shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 23 regarding the discovery of the body. Deputies said the body was found by a security guard on the south side of the park, near the shoreline of the river in that area. Detectives were sent to the scene as well as the Stanislaus County sheriff’s dive team for recovery and investigative efforts.

A spokesman in the county coroner’s office said Monday that an autopsy had been performed but no cause of death had been listed as of press time.

Officials added that Denys had been listed as a missing person in May, 2017 after family members reportedly had not heard from him in more than a month.

The investigation is continuing. If anyone has information regarding this case they can contact Detective Fisher at (209) 525-7083.
