Region Set For Storms To Roll In This Week

The first week of 2017 could prove to be quite a rainy one for the Cowboy Capital of the World.

National Weather Service forecasters are predicting a steady stream of rainy days for the foreseeable future.

By presstime on Tuesday, Oakdale had already received over a half-inch of rain from the system that arrived early Tuesday morning. Temperatures this week are predicted to hover in the low to mid-50s with a possible high of 60 by Sunday. Lows are expected to remain in the 40s, a change from earlier forecasts that had some bitter cold temperatures arriving. But rain is definitely the watch word and officials are reminding people to adjust driving speeds for the wet conditions, keep your headlights on when using your windshield wipers and watch for pooled water on local roads, which can increase the likelihood of hydroplaning.

The forecast calls for roughly a half-inch of rain on Wednesday, with partly cloudy skies on Thursday and Friday with light rainfall expected, then another stronger system bringing up to an inch of rain on Saturday, over an inch of rain currently predicted for Sunday, Jan. 8. The forecast is subject to change, but the systems are setting up to bring the wettest weather so far this winter season.
