The date for the 2018 edition of Love Oakdale is Saturday, April 21, with the gathering point to start the day offered this year at the Oakdale Community Park on South Yosemite Avenue.
The volunteer movement has been effective over the years in bringing together the resources of local residents, non-profit and civic organizations, private businesses and city-based leadership and services to accomplish a day of service work around the community.
Gina McCarty is the Team Leader for 2018 and said organizers are taking recommendations for projects and also seeking volunteers to get involved.
Last year, McCarty said, more than 220 volunteers of all ages and skill levels participated in completing over 20 projects that benefitted the community and its residents.
To volunteer, go to www.LoveOakdale.com and sign up for one of the projects. You can also follow the effort at facebook.com/loveoakdale.
A project proposal form available online requests a brief description of the project being proposed, the location, any special approvals required, the special skills and materials needed, and more. Also sought is information as to whether the project is ‘kid friendly’ with adult supervision. The project goals and potential impact, including how the project will benefit the community, is also requested.
“Encourage your friends, family and employees to volunteer for a project,” McCarty said.
The day of service begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 when volunteers will gather at the new Oakdale Community Park to register, meet up with their project leaders and enjoy breakfast and coffee. Then, a kick off rally at 9 a.m. will be hosted before all the volunteers head out to the individual project sites.
