Police units spent a portion of Monday night, April 21, investigating a night time stabbing that occurred in the Oakdale Plaza Shopping Center.

According to police reports, two men got into an argument inside the Grocery Outlet around 9:30 p.m. and went outside to the parking lot where the hostility continued. The argument escalated to the point where the victim, a 31-year-old Oakdale man, was stabbed in the torso and head with an unknown weapon.

The suspect, a white male in his 30s, fled the parking lot in a brown or gold mini-van.

The victim was transported via ambulance to Oak Valley Hospital where he remained hospitalized for the wounds until April 23.

Police stated that the victim was completely uncooperative with the officers that responded to the incident. Most of the information was obtained from witnesses.

Police Lieutenant Keri Redd said investigators are following up on leads despite the victim’s unwillingness to cooperate.

“This is still felony behavior that occurred in town,” said Redd. “A couple of patrol officers are familiar with the victim’s acquaintances and the car that was used. We have a few leads to go on.”

Since the victim did not cooperate and refused to answer questions, police do not have a motive for the initial argument.

Generally, victims of violent crimes are entitled to benefits though the state’s Victim Compensation Program that can help pay hospital bills, income loss, and other expenses that result from certain violent crimes such as a stabbing. A requirement however for the benefit is that the victim must cooperate with the police investigation.
