Pipeline Protest Due
US Army Corps Engineers

A solidarity action and rally at the Army Corps of Engineers office in Knights Ferry was scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 near press time for The Leader, the gathering in protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The movement, organizers said, was part of a larger statewide initiative on Tuesday in an effort to stop the pipeline. Attendees were planning to call on President Obama to instruct the Army Corps of Engineers to revoke the permits for the pipeline.

Expected at what organizers termed a ‘peaceful protest’ were representatives from the Universalist Church of Modesto, Save the Stanislaus river organization and other environmental groups from as far away as Merced, Mariposa and Fresno. Members of the Green Party were also expected to take part in the event at the Knights Ferry covered bridge, adjacent to the Corps of Engineers office.
