The mood was both light and airy as Oakdale Joint Unified School District board members gathered on the evening of Monday, May 14 for the monthly meeting at the OJUSD Technology and Staff Development Center. A retiree recognition/reception was hosted at the Center just prior to the 6:30 p.m. meeting.

In keeping with tradition, student school board member Russell Pabalan was given the gavel by Board President Mike House and invited to direct his final meeting.

Pabalan was also acknowledged by the board for his year of service as the student representative.

“Russell has done an outstanding job for us this year,” Superintendent of Schools Marc Malone stated. “He has been very active on campus. He has relayed information to both me and the board at all our various campuses throughout the district. We wish Russell the very best as moves forward in his college career.”

Individual members of the board echoed Malone’s sentiments, acknowledging the senior’s ability to maintain an impressive academic, as well as extra-curricular career while serving the board.

“Honestly, it’s one of the most valuable experience that I’ve ever had,” Pabalan said. “Being in this environment and being with people that really get the job done.”

Pabalan then turned the attention to friend and 2018-2019 Student School Board Representative Zachary Hill.

In general business, a first reading was given on the Suicide Prevention Plan and a Public Hearing was held for the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), District Budget and Developer Fee Justification. No actions were taken.

The meeting concluded with a review of upcoming events within the district for the final weeks of school including graduation ceremonies.

The following is the graduation 2018 schedule: Oakdale Charter Graduation, Wednesday, May 23, 5 p.m. Magnolia Auditorium; East Stanislaus/Valley Oak, Wednesday, May 23, 7 p.m. OHS Gymnasium; Oakdale Junior High, Thursday, May 24, 7 p.m. OHS Corral and Oakdale High School, Friday, May 25, 7 p.m. OHS Corral.

The final meeting of the 2017-18 OJUSD school year will be hosted on Monday, June 11 at the Oakdale City Council Chambers. The public portion of the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
