Their business card pretty much sums it up: “Repurposed, up-cycled furniture, home décor, garden and crafts.”

That is precisely what one will find upon entering the 139 N. First Ave., Oakdale, location of Odd and N’s.

Now entering its second year of business, the downtown shop and its owners have found a true niche not quite tapped into in such a way as they are offering.

“I consider our store a workshop,” owner Carrie Northcutt shared. She owns and maintains the space with her daughter Katie and husband, Jim, whom she notes as more of the silent force.

“That was one thing I wanted to make sure we had was a work space,” she said of selecting the location.

Northcutt shared she’s always had a passion for repurposing and painting furniture for herself and family members and enjoys crafting. Opening the shop was encouraged by her husband, who recognized her passion and talent.

“I think I’m a little different,” she said of the shop space. “I think we’re unique.”

While Odds and N’s hosts a variety of items for the shopper, goods offered in the space are 100 percent the Northcutt’s offerings. Vendor space is not rented and all furniture pieces are game for repurpose or paint.

“The store keeps me busy,” she said, citing much of her inspiration for unique pieces coming from creativity and Pinterest.

“People come in and ask for things,” she said of furniture pieces or floral arrangements. “A lot of it is on request. Sometimes the items are brought in and sometimes they’re bought in the store. I book six to eight weeks out for custom furniture.

“When I make something custom, it usually goes right away,” she added of creative pieces she offers for sale in the shop space. “I’ve always painted. I entered art shows in high school.”

In addition to her custom painting of furniture pieces, Northcutt also does free hand work on pieces as well as creates custom signs on request.

“I love it when I do a piece and they send me a picture when they get them set up,” she added. “We do give people tips on painting and combining paints as well. We sell what I use and offer classes on occasion.”

Odds and N’s is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Northcutt team may be reached by e-mail oddsandns@yahoo.com or call (209) 872-1184.
