The Oakdale Garden Club was established in 1909 to plant trees and flowers to beautify the city. Many of the trees planted back then remain to this day, said club officials.

Each year, for over 30 years, the Oakdale Garden Club has sponsored the salad bar luncheon, raising funds to support scholarships for Oakdale High School graduates who are pursuing a college degree in horticulture, agriculture or environmental science.

“Our goal this year is to continue to award two $1,000 scholarships,” said Taylor, the club president.

The club is looking for donations of items for the opportunity baskets, silent auction items or gift certificates and can be donated by contacting Taylor.

Today, members of the club are dedicated to continuing the efforts of the early pioneer women to keep the city green and blooming. In addition, they are committed to educating the community along horticultural lines and conservation of our natural resources.
