Mustang Varsity Soccer Ties Weston Ranch
soccerball1

In a week where Oakdale High School’s varsity boys soccer team was supposed to have two games, their schedule was reduced to one. Thanks to heavy rain on Monday, Jan. 8 the team’s Valley Oak League showdown against Lathrop was postponed. The game is scheduled to be made up on Friday, Jan. 19 at 5:15 p.m. Two days later the varsity team traveled to Stockton to take on Weston Ranch.

Both teams battled through a scoreless first half. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, junior Dayne Sturtevant found fellow junior Izzy Valero and Valero’s kick tied the game for Oakdale. Three second half saves by Philip Knieriere helped the Mustangs to a 1-1 road tie with the Cougars (3-8-3, 3-1-1).

Coming up, the Mustangs (5-6-3, 2-1-1) are scheduled to host a pair of Valley Oak League contests. On Wednesday, Jan. 17 Oakdale welcomes Kimball (2-7-1, 1-3-1) with game time scheduled for 5:45 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 22 the Mustangs host Central Catholic (1-5-3, 0-3-1) at 5:45 p.m. Next Wednesday, Oakdale will wrap up the four game homestand against Manteca (0-9-0, 0-4-0).

JUNIOR VARSITY

The junior varsity boys took care of business on the road against the Cougars. Oakdale won the league game 3-1. The Mustangs trailed 1-0 at the half but answered with three second half goals. Caden Frazee shared the wealth against the host Cougars as he racked up two assists. Frazee found both Sergio Millard and David Ayala early in the second half to give the Mustangs a 2-1 advantage. Later in the half Peter Crossman found the net on an assist by Julian Renteria. Oakdale’s JV squad looks to continue its winning ways when they host Kimball on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The busy week continues when they host Lathrop in a makeup game from Monday scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday, and will host Central Catholic on Monday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m.
