A violent late spring thunderstorm rocked the Oakdale area overnight, with one lightning strike setting off a fire near the River Paradise Mobile Home Park.
Fire crews were on scene shortly after 3 a.m., when a stand of large trees was struck and erupted into flames. The trees were behind a mobile home in the complex. Authorities did not report any injuries but the orange ball of flames was visible from many locations in the city.
Roughly a third of an inch of rain fell as two different cells swept over the region, the first with the accompanying thunder and lightning just before 3 a.m. and a second, lighter rain about 4:30 a.m.
Oakdale Police also responded to the scene to assist.
