On Saturday Oct. 30, Oakdale Mayor Farrell Jackson and his wife Gayle, joined the family of the late Mayor Elmo Garcia to accept, on behalf of the City of Oakdale, a tree that was donated by the family of Elmo Garcia. The day started off with a potluck luncheon at the residence of Alice Garcia and was attended by 45 family members and friends. The dedication of the Valley Oak tree (Quercus Lobata) was presented at L.B. Gilbert Park, which was the first park on the east side of Oakdale that Elmo helped initiate. Adolphe and Shirley Garcia and Larry A. Garcia Landscape Company provided the tree and plaque. Larry, a nephew of the late Elmo Garcia, and his crew installed the plaque and tree. Dessert was then served after the dedication.
