Fire crews from multiple agencies were attacking a fast-moving multi-acre fire near Knights Ferry on Wednesday afternoon, June 21.

CalFire helicopters were called in to drop water and several fire crews from Stanislaus Consolidated and surrounding agencies, including CalFire, were on the scene along Sonora Road near Frymire. Several units staged at a site along Schell Road and a number of planes were also overhead to assist with the firefighting effort.

The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. and originally was listed as about 20 acres, with a fast rate of spread. There are several large homes in the area and crews were keeping tabs on multiple locations. Temperatures topping out over 100 degrees, coupled with brisk winds in the area on Wednesday, added to the difficulty in fighting the fire.
