Fugitive Taken Into Custody

An Escalon man wanted in connection with a stabbing earlier this month was apprehended outside Oakdale on Thursday morning.

Authorities reported that on Jan. 29 about 9:50 a.m., the suspect, Benjamin Marquez, 33, from Escalon was arrested by fugitive task force personnel at a residence in Stanislaus County, outside of Oakdale, near Orange Blossom and Rodden roads.

The task force personnel included members from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, US Marshalls Office, Stockton Police and California Highway Patrol.

Marquez was subsequently turned over to Escalon Police for questioning concerning a stabbing that took place on Thursday, Jan. 15 in the 1200 block of Ullrey Avenue in Escalon. After being interviewed by Escalon Police personnel, Marquez was booked into San Joaquin County jail on the following charges: attempted murder, intimidating a witness, domestic violence, battery, and parole violation.
