After less than eight months on the job, Matt Daly has submitted his resignation as the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Chief.

The district’s Board of Directors took action on the resignation at a special meeting last week.

“At the March 20, 2017 Special Meeting of the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Board of Directors, the Board accepted Fire Chief Matt Daly’s resignation, effective April 21, 2017,” Board President Susan Zanker said in a statement issued on behalf of the SCFPD Board of Directors. “Chief Daly noted that he will be returning to Illinois to more closely meet family needs.”

Daly had taken over the Consolidated Fire post late last August, following an extensive nationwide search. He came to Stanislaus County after serving as a deputy chief for Downers Grove Fire Department in Illinois, taking over the 81-personnel Stanislaus Consolidated department.

He had retired from the Downers Grove post after serving 22 years in the fire service.

Following acceptance of Daly’s resignation, the Board of Directors set a special meeting for Monday, March 27 for a closed session with the topic of Public Employment – Fire Chief. The session was hosted at Waterford City Hall, 101 E St., Waterford, at 4 p.m. Monday.

“The Board is actively working on the recruitment process using the recent recruitment database along with an open recruitment notice,” noted President Zanker in the board statement. “It is hoped that the recruitment effort will result in the hiring of a Fire Chief matching the excellence and professionalism standards of the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District.”

A job announcement is also being posted on the District’s website.

No time frame has been given for finding Daly’s replacement. His final day on the job for Stanislaus Consolidated is scheduled for Friday, April 21.

Stanislaus Consolidated operates nine fire stations to provide fire and emergency medical services in an area covering 523 square miles.
