Rescue Mission Fundraiser

Oakdale Rescue Mission is planning a ‘ginormous’ Garage Sale featuring tools, furniture, kitchen items, clothing, and more. The sale is scheduled for Thursday, July 19; Friday, July 20; and Saturday, July 21 beginning at 7 a.m. each day – closing time will depend on the heat. Come see the items at 131 W. G St., Oakdale. Proceeds will go to Oakdale Rescue Mission’s new home to get it up and running to benefit those in our community. For questions or donations, call Matthew at 1 (831) 207-8688.

 

Beauty And The Beast

Students of Oakdale High School and Sierra View Elementary will take to the stage for the 27th Annual YES company production, with ‘Beauty and the Beast’ the featured performance. Show dates are July 20, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m., and July 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 3 p.m. YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company is producing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, to be performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Tickets are now on sale at the Gallo Center for the Arts box office and www.galloarts.org.

 

Library Activities

The new monthly edition of Family Story Time will be featured at the Oakdale Library on Saturday, July 14, at 10 a.m. Books, music, finger plays and more. This is a wonderful opportunity for families who miss out on the regular weekday Story Time to share the full experience together. Wee Move And Play program, featuring unstructured imaginative play for little ones, 5 and under, will be hosted Mondays, July 16 and July 30. Parents can help their children learn social skills and have fun at the same time. Join in at 11 a.m. both days. The Children’s Craft this month will feature an “anything goes” Craft-a-Palooza event. Choose from a wide array of crafts from the past, and crafts yet undone. Make one here or take one to go. There will be a great assortment of fun to do on Wednesday, July 18, at 3:30 p.m.

 

Artisan Market

The second annual Delicato Summer Artisan Market series will start on Saturday, July 14. Stay cool inside, sip wine and shop; the market will feature local food products, jewelry, wearables, handcrafted items and more. The Artisan Markets will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday, July 14; Aug. 11 and Sept. 8. The public is encouraged to sip the newest wine releases chosen from the current tasting menu while shopping the displays from local vendors; wine tasting fee is $5, no entry fee to browse the Artisan Market. Delicato is on Highway 99, four miles north of Manteca at Exit 246.

 

TOPS Meeting

All are invited to the weekly meetings of TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, 1034 that gathers each Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar Ave., Oakdale. The group features help with weight loss in a supportive setting. Residents of Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon and beyond are welcome to attend. Call Audrey Oliver at 209-765-7838 for information. Docents Sought

The Great Valley Museum on the West Campus of Modesto Junior College is offering training for new docents to share information about the habitats, animals, and plants of the Central Valley with museum visitors. Docents are trained to lead guided tours for school and adult groups. A background in science is not required, just enthusiasm for working with people. Join Toastmasters

The local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club gathers for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 18.
