Concerns about the future of water in the region will take center stage on Monday night.

Eastside Groundwater Coalition, a group of east Stanislaus County citizens concerned with the overdraft of the Oakdale-Waterford aquifer, is hosting a public meeting on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Oakdale Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., starting at 7 p.m.

Organizers said the main purpose of the meeting is to understand the threat to the Oakdale-Waterford aquifer, and to be informed as to what can and cannot be done to protect it. Vance Kennedy, a retired hydrologist, will explain the nature of groundwater in the county and the consequences of too much demand and too little supply. Stanislaus County District 1 Supervisor Bill O’Brien will speak on the upcoming action before the Board of Supervisors on groundwater regulation and answer questions from the audience.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about the issue.
