The first month of 2016 is rapidly winding down, but calendars featuring artwork by local students and celebrating salmon are still available. Cost is just $5 for the 2016 calendars, available at the Great Valley Museum located at Modesto Junior College West Campus, or by contacting Jamie Meek at eaststanislausrcd.@gmail.com or Teri Curtis at curtist@mjc.edu. Proceeds from the calendar will be used for the 2016 Salmon Festival. Each year, the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival Planning Committee invites young artists to celebrate the return of Chinook salmon to the Stanislaus River through participation in the Salmon Festival Art Contest. Through their artwork, students are encouraged to depict salmon living in the river or ocean.
