Beginning July 1, Modesto Junior College will be host to a new baking and pastry program. The program is kicking off with a Basic Baking and Pastry Arts course which is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m., July 1 through Aug. 15.

Students participating in the course will receive an introduction to pastries, breads, cookies, pies, and cakes. Participants will also explore the proper use of baking ovens, stoves, cooking equipment, and tools to produce baked products. This course will be offered in the newly renovated culinary arts facility in the John Muir Building on MJC’s west campus.

For more information, or support with enrolling in the Basic Baking and Pastry Arts course, call the Columbia College Career Technical Education Division Office at 209-588-5142. The program is being offered through a partnership with MJC’s sister college, Columbia College, which is home to an outstanding, American Culinary Federation accredited, Hospitality Management Program.

“We are very excited about launching this new and innovative baking and pastry program at MJC,” Columbia College Dean of Career Technical Education Brandon Price explained. “Our Hospitality Management Program has developed into one of the most popular vocational education programs at Columbia College and we believe these culinary courses will be very well received at MJC. We are delighted to provide students in the Central Valley this opportunity, whether they would like to hone their baking skills or embark on a culinary career.”
