Oakdale Police, with assistance from the Turlock Police Department SWAT team, on Thursday arrested a man for attempted murder.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, Oakdale Police Investigators along with Turlock Police Department SWAT served a search and arrest warrant at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Pedras Road in Turlock. Oakdale Police Investigators spent weeks tracking down the suspect of a shooting that occurred on March 22 at 207 W. North St. in Oakdale to the apartment complex in Turlock.

Upon initial service, the suspect – identified as Jesus Tovar, 37 – barricaded himself within the apartment. He surrendered after a four-hour standoff with the SWAT team and negotiators. He will be booked into Stanislaus County Jail on the arrest warrant with a $2 million bail for the attempted murder incident that occurred in Oakdale back in March.

Citizens with any information on the March 22 shooting are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636 and contact Oakdale Police Detective Don Stilwell at 209-847-2231. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
