This past Thursday, nearly 50 kids packed the Oakdale Library for a craft activity, Design Your Fun. While the temperature outside climbed into the triple digits, the Oakdale Library, which serves as a designated cooling center, was the perfect spot for kids to come to and enjoy an afternoon of fun crafts.

The Design Your Fun project was a part of the Summer Reading Program offered at the library. On Thursday the kids made catapults out of Popsicle sticks, rubber bands and plastic spoons. Being tossed into orbit were Angry Birds made out of cotton balls and felt. The youngsters also got to set up their birds on towers and used Nerf guns to shoot them down.

Other games included bird races where the kids blew their birds off the table using a straw; water painting; crafting gumdrop towers; and drawing using a Spirograph.

The Oakdale Library offers plenty to do this summer including Lego Day every Friday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., weekly story time for toddlers ages 3-5, wiggle worms story times, toddler wee move and play time, and other craft days throughout the month. The library’s summer reading program is for all ages. For more information visit the library or go online at
