All local business owners are encouraged to attend a workshop focusing on ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance, set for Thursday, Aug. 14 in Escalon. A second session is scheduled in Manteca.

The workshop is for owners to learn how to protect their businesses against damaging and frivolous lawsuits. Hosted by State Senator Cathleen Galgiani, she said that the information will be beneficial and timely, as lawsuit abuse not only hurts local businesses, it hurts consumers as well.

Attendees will learn about the ADA, California law and how to improve access to their businesses for the disabled.

The workshop is being held in partnership with the Civil Justice Association of California.

The Escalon meeting is scheduled at the Escalon Community Center, 1055 Escalon Ave., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 14.

In Manteca, a session is planned on Friday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Manteca Transit Center, 220 Moffat Blvd.
