At the MAC meeting last Thursday Christie Dowd from the Stanislaus County Planning Department presented the tentative parcel division of the Thompsons. They want to divide 932 acres into 24 forty-acre parcels behind Horseshoe Road. Approximately 750 acres are now planted in almonds. The project proposes access to the property through a publicly maintained 30-foot wide easement off Horseshoe and they need a secondary access, proposed to Rodden Road. Two access roads are needed before anything can be done. Christine also presented the MAC with a letter from Nick Honchariw complaining about the Historical District’s 5-acre minimum parcel plan outside the Core Area by the county. He feels it is discriminating against him. California Highway Patrolman Anthony gave the details of the head-on crash past Kennedy Road and an auto theft arrest on Lancaster. Also at the meeting, it was noted that the staffing for our fire station is posted at the Post Office.

Carol Davis spent her birthday with her son Bruce, daughter-in-law Kim and grandchildren Autumn and Connor, who came up from school in San Diego. They took Carol over the new Bay Bridge in San Francisco, went to the Farmers Market at the Ferry Building, did North Beach and ate at Original Joes. They went to Golden Gate Park and the Conservatory of Flowers where the Dahlias were in full bloom. Last stop was the Pacific Ocean!

Gayle Diltz and Don helped celebrate National White Cane Day in the Plaza by City Hall in Modesto. The Mayor of Modesto read a proclamation to all. Don and Gayle also toured Black Hawk Auto Museum with the Oakdale Model A Club.

At the pumpkin roll baking by the Garden Club, Leta Lutz was working and Leslie Chitwood brought a friend, Leta Roles to bake. They were commenting on the two Leta’s and come to find out, Leta Roles was named for Leta Lutz! Leta Roles mother, Ida (Napier) went to Oakdale High School with Leta (Barnwell) Lutz and when Ida had a baby girl she named her Leta because she thought her friend Leta was a beautiful girl! What a small world!

Wendy Feichter, Kathleen Malcolm, Janelle Page, Melissa Franca and Wendy Brown participated in the Portland Marathon. They flew to Oregon, ran and all finished the 26.2 mile race! Fifteen thousand participated in the race. While there they toured and went to VooDoo Donuts, a landmark and top tourist attraction. Wendy said the food trucks were innovative. Portland is known for its food trucks. They all had dinner with a family on their houseboat on the Willamette River. Wendy said they are going to try some more marathons in the future.
