Knights Ferry News for December 16, 2009

The Ulrich family held their annual Christmas party at the I.O.O.F. Hall last Saturday. There were 4 generations represented, with a lot of children this year. Betty Rogers was the oldest Ulrich in attendance and Paisley Vargas was the youngest. Laura Simons led the children in singing Christmas Carols, accompanied by Rick Starbuck on guitar. Taryn Goehring announced her engagement. Bobby McCoy is in Iraq and was in their prayers. Santa came after dinner and the children received presents from the “jolly old elf.” It was a fabulous evening.

At the Knights Ferry School Board meeting, Oath of Office was given to Mark Schlegel, Bill Frias and Nancy Redden and Maureen McKibban was elected President of the Board. Sherron McCarthy was appointed Board Representative for the year. Guests were Mr. Fred Rich, Superintendent of the Oakdale Unified School District and Mr. Mike Tozzi, Oakdale Board of Trustees member. Mr. Tozzi is the representative for the Knights Ferry and Valley Home Districts. There was a question and answer session. All seem to be of the same mind on school items.

Knights Ferry Garden Club held its December meeting and luncheon at the home of Dolores Rauch. The upcoming Winter Valley Lode District meeting, which Oakdale Garden Club and Knights Ferry Garden Club will be co-hosting, was discussed. Smokey Bear posters were judged - winners to be announced after Christmas. A gift exchange and grab was next with all enjoying the fun, followed by a delicious lunch.

Knights Ferry School Fifth and Sixth graders are collecting old towels for the Animal Shelter. If you have some to donate, drop them off at the school before December 18th.

The Knights Ferry School’s Winter Holiday Program is Thursday, December 17th at the clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. The Kindergarten through Fourth Grades will perform, along with poems by the Eighth grade.

The Odd Fellows held their Christmas dinner last Sunday at the I.O.O.F. Hall. The cooks did an outstanding job on the prime rib and trimmings. Santa came with gifts and goodies for the children and the adults had a gift exchange. It was a merry afternoon!

The First and Second Graders at KFS went on the Christmas Train from Oakdale. Logan Martinelli liked the hot chocolate and cookies and seeing Santa. Mikali Willis liked seeing Santa. All had a good time.

Phil and Carmen Frymire had Carmen’s cousin’s from Paraguay visit them. Marta and Carlos Fassetti stayed at the Knights Ferry Hotel and enjoyed the town.

The Second Grade Kindness Club at KFS is collecting food for the needy. Donations can be brought to room 7 before the winter break.
