Dakota Voortman is rounding out her senior year with a few trips to visit colleges with her dad, David. A few weeks ago, they went to Illinois, Kansas, and North Dakota and last week they went to Oregon where she attended classes, and met with track coaches.

This week, Oakdale Arts began progress on their newest mural around Oakdale. It is a rodeo themed mural behind the H-B. It is especially special to me because it features three cowboys, one of which is my dad, Bill Martinelli.

It is so wonderful to see all the community events happening around town. Knights Ferry School is hosting a free movie night on April 8, 2022 from 6:30-8:30pm! Everyone is invited to sit on the field with their blankets and chairs and watch Sing 2. The sixth and eighth graders will be selling concessions to raise money for their upcoming graduation and science camp. Mark your calendars and come up to enjoy the beautiful evening at the school.

Thank you to all the local volunteers who pitched in to fix our town’s water pipeline leak near the plaza area. It is greatly appreciated! It truly takes a village to maintain this small town!

I was saddened to hear that Bill Wearin passed on Sunday, March 13th. His family has always been incredibly near and to dear to the Knights Ferry community and it won’t be the same without him. His sweet wife, Ellen Wearin aka Mrs. Wearin if you were in her Junior High class, was a fixture at Knights Ferry School for many years. The family plans to have a service for Bill at the Knights Ferry Cemetery on April 15th at 10am and lunch at the Community Club after the service. If you are able, please bring a dessert to share. The family has requested everyone wear their best Carhartt shirts in honor of Bill. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to the entire Wearin family.

The final days to register your car/truck in the Classic Car Show on Main Street are upon us! If you or anyone you know plans to register their car/truck, the committee would like to have the entries by March 25th. Enter on the Community Club’s website and call Chris Peterson for questions at 209-402-9831.

I saw a few flyers around town advertising some delicious food offerings on Saturday, April 2, 2022, the day of the Car Show. The Odd Fellows are offering their filling pancake breakfast from 7am-11am for $7 a plate and the Masons are offering House of Beef tri tip sandwich meals and a Lockeford Famous sausage sandwich with prices ranging from $9.50 - $13.50 from 11am-3pm.
