The community yard sale was the hottest sale in town! The blistering heat didn’t scare families from bringing their goods downtown although it did chase many of us away before two!

River Journey was in the right place at the right time to save a woman and her dog enjoying a kayak trip down the river. It is great to see the rafting companies helping private boaters along the Stanislaus River. The river flow is much lower these days and while we should always respect the river, it is a great trip!

One of the most interesting buildings in Knights Ferry is the old jail on the east side of town. It has been here since the Goodwin Dam construction in 1912 as the townspeople complained of the construction workers creating a bit of chaos in town. There are many stories about the origin of the iron-walled building; I’ve heard it was an old powder house from Oakdale, that it is an old salvaged cell from the Modesto jail’s remodel, and that a blacksmith shop in Oakdale built it for the very purpose. The jail’s final days of operation were during the Centennial Celebration in 1948.
